Our story.
VALO BioMedia is a company with over 50 years of experience as a specialist in the production and distribution of SPF and clean eggs. Its roots go back to the hybrid breeding companies Lohmann Breeders (previously: Lohmann Tierzucht) from Cuxhaven, Germany and Hy-Line International from Des Moines (Iowa), U.S.A.
While initial research to establish SPF flocks began in the late 1950s, the first true “Filtered Air, Positive Pressure” (FAPP) production facility was built in Northern Germany in 1968. This was the birth of VALO (stands for “Vakzine Lohmann”) as a division of Lohmann Tierzucht, which was a success story for a good 40 years until the end of 2010 (see “Graphic Milestones”). It was such a huge success story that EW GROUP, as the owner, identified the production of SPF and clean eggs as a strategic business area in its own right.

In 2011, the VALO department was spun off into VALO BioMedia as an independent and specialized company. The name addition “BioMedia” indicates that we do not only produce SPF and clean eggs, but also related or downstream biological growth media such as primary cell cultures.
Since our establishment as its own company until today, more than 120 million euros have been invested in building new sites and increasing our capacity, in the continuous improvement of product quality and in the optimization of our quality management.
Staying closely connected to our roots and thus to Lohmann Breeders as a research partner and supplier also continues to be a cornerstone of our identity. After all, the performance potential for use in vaccine production or research lies in the egg layer breeding lines tailored to VALO BioMedia, which we would like to utilize in the best possible way in the interest of efficient use of resources in cooperation with our customers.
